Mark Zandi is chief economist of Moody's Analytics, where he leads the firm's economic research and its widely followed data and forecasting tools. He cofounded Economy.com, which Moody's acquired in 2005, and has built a reputation as one of the most quoted and trusted economic voices in the country, a regular witness before Congress and a frequent briefer of corporate boards and trade associations.
For a financial services audience, his value is the bridge he builds between the macro picture and the decisions a bank or lender actually makes. He connects the rate path, credit conditions, housing, and the labor market to net interest margins, provisioning, and deposit behavior, which is the conversation treasury teams and risk leaders need rather than a general economic survey.
He is the author of Paying the Price, an assessment of the policy response to the Great Recession, and Financial Shock, which the New York Times called the clearest guide to the subprime mortgage crisis. On stage he is candid about what the data supports and where the outlook is genuinely uncertain, which is what gives his read credibility with audiences who price risk for a living.
